The Golf Course
The golf course was laid out by John Pollock who was head shepherd
at Auchnafree.
There are nine holes, plus about five thousand rabbit holes; sheep keep
the fairways. It embodies the ancient spirit of golf, especially
as the game itself started in Scotland.
Michael Bamberger in his book 'To the Linksland' refers
to the Auchnafree course: "I had discovered real golf. Shepherd
Pollock was the original golfer, and his flock's grazing land, Auchnafree,
the original links. Auchnafree was an Eden, a nine hole Eden."
